Obama appoints McHugh as Army Secretary.

In perhaps the first appointment/nomination Obama has made right, he has appointed Republican Congressman John McHugh from the 23rd Congressional district in Upstate New York, who is a leading supporter of the War on Terrorism - and our Military overall, then again I will say this appointment is all politics - if you pick a radical liberal for the Secretary of Army, it would kill his approval numbers, so picking a Republican just makes sense.

As for the special election that will follow when McHugh is confirmed, it has voted in Congressional races for Republicans for nearly 13 straight elections, in Presidential elections the voters are more divided, but in congressional districts - Republicans have been elected without problem, as McHugh was elected by a 60,000 vote majority in 2008, so whomever is selected as the Republican nominee to run for the upcoming special election in Upstate New York - will win with ease.

Possible Republican candidates :

Assemblyman Dierdre Scozzafava who represents parts of Upstate New York, and is one of only a few dozen Republicans in the New York general assembly.

Assemlyman Will Barclay who represents mainly Oswego county in Upstate New York, who once served on the United States Court of Appeals.

Stay tuned.
