Conditions were bad in Mississippi, very bad. Lawyers ran amuck with lawsuits against everyone & anything, the state was very anti-business because of all of the lawyers, the medical profession was a disaster, a solution was needed. Luckily, Governor Haley Barbour was elected - and with his strong support of pushing for a solution, Tort reform came.
Since then, doctors have returned to the state, 60,000 new jobs have been created in the state (with a threat from Toyota, that if Tort reform is ever repealed - they will leave), and more youngsters in the state are going to business school - instead of becoming a lawyer.
What is Tort reform? Well, it pretty much is a massive protection of business from the evils of lawyers, who will file lawsuit over anything - this pretty much puts a cap on how much a plaintiff can receive, as a jury rewarded one person in Mississippi 1 billion dollars in a lawsuit, just CRAZY!
Tort reform works in the medical profession by limiting the amounts one can be paid when a lawsuit is filed against a doctor or health provider, it allows the malpractice insurance to fall, and eventually the overall cost of health care drops as well. This is the plan for the Congress of the United States to enact, it will cost taxpayers nothing - and it will literally reduce health care costs.
Will they ever do this? A long as there is more then 40 Democrats in the Senate, this will never happen, because the Democrats are to lawyers what blood is to ticks. The only chance for this amazing success story to reach all parts of America, is for the American people to wake up their representatives now.
